Uprising Leadership Programme Opens its doors to Keele Staff and Students

UpRising UpRising has announced the launch of their flagship Core Leadership programme to young people aged 19 - 25 across North Staffordshire.  The programme has been endorsed by Keele and will be delivered in partnership with YMCA North Staffordshire.  Keele staff and students are being invited to take part in the programme.

UpRising is a UK-wide leadership development organisation with a mission to open pathways to power for talented young people from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.  They aim to equip them with the knowledge, networks, skills and confidence to fulfil their leadership potential, find new opportunities, and transform the world around them through social action.  The programme is a six month programme, involving ‘access behind the scenes’ sessions with some of the UK’s most senior leaders.

The programme offers participants a unique first-hand view of the way that political, business, public sector and community organisations work together to shape our communities.  All participants work with other UpRisers to design and deliver a social action campaign on a local issue they are passionate about.  As well as forming networks with senior figures, participants also build strong networks amongst their peers on the programme.

Professor Mark Ormerod, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise and institutional lead for Environment and Sustainability, said: "This is a great opportunity for students from both universities in North Staffordshire to connect, and connect with those working and living in the local area.  We see UpRising as a scheme that will further prompt Keele students to give back to the communities that they live in, further broadening their awareness of the local area.  After successfully running the programme in Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and London, we are very glad that UpRising sees the potential of Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area as one of the great UK cities.  Through the programme young people will be equipped with the knowledge, networks, skills and confidence to reach their leadership potential and take social action on issues they care about.”

Most sessions and workshops take place in the evening so that the programme can be fitted around work, study and other commitments and will take place at various locations across North Staffordshire.  For more information visit www.uprising.org.uk or contact Nicky Twemlow.
