Study Space Options
Studying options in the Library
The Library provides facilities for both group and individual study in zoned areas and in designated rooms.
Silent Areas
- Silent Study areas are located on the Ground & Top Floors.
- Individual private study carrels are located on the Top floor and are bookable daily from the Library Counter. A deposit of £5.00 is required, this is refunded on return of the key. Semester use carrels are also available to research and taught postgraduates, for more information see our postgraduate information page
Group Areas
- Group Study areas are located on the Middle Floor.
- Group Study Rooms there are five rooms available, bookings are for a maximum of 2 hours: please reserve these via the Library Counter.
Staff patrol the building at regular intervals to ensure an appropriate study environment is being maintained. If you are being disturbed by noise you can use our discrete Text service to report problems and staff will investigage - Call 07768 511143
How Group Study Room Bookings Work:
- Bookings will be taken at the Library Counter until 9:30pm of the day before the room is required.
- Each day, a list detailing bookings will be placed on the door of each room.
- No deposits will be taken and the rooms will be left unlocked – it will be your responsibility to ensure that your personal property is safe.
- On the day, you may use group study rooms without a booking unless they have been pre-booked.
- You must vacate the room at the time it has been booked for.
- All group study rooms must be vacated by 7:00am to enable cleaning to take place.
Photocopying
Photocopying
There are self-service photocopiers on all floors of the Library. The machines will copy on A3 as well as A4, and offer reduction and enlargement.
All the copiers are operated with the Keele card, which can be recharged at the service point in the foyer, or at any of the other service points on campus.
Copier 4 in Short Loan also operates with cash.
One copier at the South end of the Periodicals area on the ground floor is solely for use by staff and postgraduates.
A scanner is also available in the IT Suite; for advice on this please contact the IT Services Help Desk
Please remember that photocopying is subject to copyright legislation. Information on this is displayed near the copiers, and guidelines on copying copyright material are available.
IT Services/Computing Facilities
IT Services/Computing Facilities
- PCs are available in the IT Suite on the Middle Floor.
- Labs on the Ground Floor are Silent Study Labs.
- Labs are booked for teaching sessions but are otherwise open to all.
- Wireless networking is available on all three floors of the Library.
- To use the wireless network, you need a Keele IT username and password and an enabled laptop. Find out more here

Your Keele Card
Your Keele Card
- There is a Keele Card top-up point on the left-hand wall as you enter the Library. Your card can be used for photocopying, printing and to pay any fine or other charges at the Library Counters.
- Your Keele Card is your Library Card - you will need it every time you borrow an item. You should carry your Keele Card with you whenever you are using the Library.

Refreshment Area
Refreshment Area
The Refreshments Area is on the ground floor of the Campus Library and is a great place to take some time out from your studies without having to leave the building.
- There are vending machines offering a choice of drinks and snacks or you may bring your own.
- Cold snacks, sandwiches and bottled or lidded drinks are permitted anywhere in the Library but we encourage you to use the Refreshment Area.
- Eating of hot take-away food in the Library is restricted to the Refreshment Area only. This is unpopular with some people but due the odours created create an unpleasant study environment for others so please respect this.
Users with Disabilities
Users with Disabilities
- Entry from Ground Floor level is available if you are unable to manage steps. Please contact the Library Administrator (01782 733232) for details.
- There are lifts to all floors.
- There is a toilet designed for wheel-chair users on the Ground Floor. This toilet is accessed via the universal RADAR key.
- Standard PCs in the Library have software to enlarge the screen display, and to speak displayed text. Please ask at the main counter if you wish to buy headphones.
Fax/Microform
Microform readers
Microform readers are provided in the Law Library on the ground floor. A microform reader-scanner is available in the Special Collections office on the top floor.
Fax service
A fax service is available. To use it please contact the Library Administrator (01782 733232) to make use of this facility.
