Off-campus access to electronic resources

The library is working towards introducing "single sign-on" technology to improve access to our subscribed e-resources. In practical terms this will mean that users will be able to access online resources by entering their Keele username and password rather than a separate ATHENS username and password. There are a few resources where this method of access is not yet viable. Please see our further information page for details.

Look out for a link called “institutional log-in” or "Shibboleth log-in", select the UK Federation and then Keele University and log in using your IT Account username and password (the log-in you use to access the Campus network) where you see the following screen:

Don’t forget Library staff can show you how this works, and answer queries in person, at the new “Info Point” desk on the Middle Floor of the Keele Campus Library, by telephone 01782 733535 or e-mail library.help@keele.ac.uk

Other Log ins

Usernames/passwords

A few electronic resources (including some journals) use different log-ins, which are available as follows:

UK Federation Access

If either

  • "UK Federation" or
  • "UK Federated Access"

is mentioned when you’ve clicked on a link to a resource off-campus, select Keele University from the drop down menu before logging-in with your Keele username/password.

Access via Keele Network ("IP") Address only

Some resources recognize just the address of the PC you’re using on the Keele network. This means you can't use them off-campus

  • If you are using HallsNet you should normally have full access. If you have problems please contact HallsNet

However you can't access the resource if …

  • You’re using an Internet Service Provider (e.g. BT)
  • You’re accessing it from another University network.  Access depends on whether your institution has registered for this service.  Please contact your institution’s Library for further information
