Healthcare Databases

Healthcare Databases: evidence-based reviews

 

Cochrane Library (this is freely available - via National Library for Health): Database of systematic reviews, clinical trials and other evidence-based material aimed at informing healthcare research, teaching, funding, and administration. Full-text is available for Cochrane reviews only.

Key Health databases: Life Sciences/Chemistry


(1) Via ProQuest.  You will need your Keele log-in for off-campus access to the following.  Note you can now access each database directly!  Click here to access off-campus(note, it's better to search the databases separately -  use the links provided below)


(2) Via EBSCO (You will need your Keele log-in to access the EBSCO databases from off-campus)

  • AMED (Allied & Complementary Medicine): Complementary medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, and rehabilitation
  • MEDLINE: Nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, medical education, pre-clinical sciences, and more – contains tens of millions of references
  • PsycINFO: Major database of abstracts drawn from the literature of behavioural science and mental health (1872 to date); includes some full-text articles

NHS Evidence

A collection of resources for health and social care practitioners.  Many resources (e.g. guidelines) are freely available, but e-books, databases and journals require an NHS ATHENS log-in (this can obtained only if you are on placement in an NHS Trust).  Your Keele ATHENS account details will not work.  This website provides access to Specialist Collections (freely available) for e.g. diabetes - use the link at the top of the page to access these


NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care

Central, authoritative resource for health and social.  Includes data and statistics collections


Statistics: Click here to view the Health Library's Statistics Page. They are split up into different types (e.g. local, UK and regional) - click the tabs to see the different kinds of statistics that are available

Economic & Social Data Service: Click Log In.  From the next screen, click Log in via UK Federation, then choose Keele University from the drop-down menu under Choose from List and click Select.  Complete the Registration form.  Use the A-Z index to select Health Studies.
