I studied MGeoscience at Keele University, graduating in 2010. I subsequently became a research student, also at Keele. I am currently beginning the second year of my Ph.D, studying magmatic processes and their control on contrasting eruption styles in the Azores, Portugal.

Effusive versus explosive trachytic to rhyolitic volcanism in the Azores, Portugal

The Azores Archipelago represents an unusual example of an oceanic island volcanic setting, exhibiting a complex volcanic history of explosive and effusive eruptions of basaltic to trachytic magmas.

Field area

This study aims to identify pre- and syn-eruptive processes occurring within the magma systems beneath the isles of Terceira and São Miguel, and evaluate their degree of control over eruption style.

This will be achieved by geochemical, mineral-chemical, and textural analysis of pyroclastic deposits and dome lavas from each island.
