was appointed Professor of Structural Geology at Keele University in 1987. Previously I worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant and then a Lecturer in Geology at Cardiff University for 12 years. At Keele, I have done a variety of jobs including Head of School of Earth Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise.  I am a Fellow of the Geological Society of London and a Chartered Geologist.

Section My main geological/geophysical expertise is in structural geology, seismic interpretation, GIS, and basin analysis. I have worked on research contracts with the oil industry in the UK and Ireland, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East and widely in mainland Europe. 

I  publish on applied aspects of structural geology and I have directed numerous internationally-sponsored research projects.  I am part of the Basin Dynamics Research Group and Research Institute for the Environment, Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics (EPSAM).
