The Estates and Development Directorate is responsible for the management of the campus estate including buildings and grounds. This involves the on-going maintenance of the campus and continual improvements to upgrade re-model and/or extend existing buildings and provide new facilities.
The Estates and Development Directorate has policies and procedures in place to minimise the impact its activities have on the environment. In addition, the directorate supports the whole university in developing new sustainability initiatives and raising awareness.
In order to manage our activities we are developing an environmental management system to ISO standard 14001. This enables us as an organisation to identify and control the environmental impact of our activities, products and services; to continuously improve our environmental performance; and, to implement a systematic approach to set and achieve environmental objectives and targets.
As part of the system our main environmental aspects have been identified:
- Emissions and Discharges
- Waste and Recycling
- Sustainable Transport and Travel
- Construction
- Water
- Energy
- Biodiversity
The University’s Environmental Policy covers areas such as greening the curriculum, waste reduction, sustainable development and transport and contains a series of targets across these areas.
