Counselling & Emotional Wellbeing

Confidentiality

We offer current students free and confidential counselling.

We will not routinely inform your academic school, family, partner or your GP that you attend the service unless you request us to do so.

There are, however,  some circumstances where a counsellor would break confidentiality.  Primarily these are circumstances where we believe you are a considerable risk to your own, or others, safety.

Your counsellor will talk to you about this at your initial appointment and you can ask question or clarify concerns.

The service works within the terms of the Data Protection Act (1998). The factual data you give to the service, including the dates you attend for counselling, are stored anonymously in a secure computer database. We use this data to compile anonymous statistics about the use of the service, including presenting issues and concerns students bring.
