Kevin Mattinson is the Director of Initial Teacher Education at Keele University and took up post in September 2004. He previously was Head of Secondary Education at Edge Hill College of Higher Education, where he had responsibility for PGCE, Flexible postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes.

Kevin is also Pro Vice-Chancellor for Community and Partnerships.  In this role he takes a strategic lead for the development or partnerships with educational bodies, particularly in respect of academy and trust schools.  He is the strategic champion within the University for widening participation and for equality and diversity.  Current work, which brings together the roles of PVC and Head of Teacher Education, includes the development of initial teacher education provision in India with the Indus Trust.

Between 1991 and 2001, he was a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, within the School/Institute of Education. For a number of years, he was Course Leader for the PGCE Secondary course at the Crewe campus. He also led marketing and recruitment activities for ‘Crewe School of Education. Prior to leaving MMU, Kevin also had responsibility for employment-based routes into Secondary Teaching for the Institute of Education, working across the Crewe and Didsbury (Manchester) campuses.

Kevin represents Keele University on a number of UCET Committees and has served on QCA and TDA/OfSTED/DfES Advisory groups. He has also worked with a number of Universities as External Examiner and as External Consultant for validations and revalidations of courses (within the UK and Overseas) and for OfSTED Inspections, along with being a QAA auditor.  Kevin's research interests have includ3d the 14-19 curriculum, quality in teacher education and the use of standards to inform the education ahd training of beginning training numbers and the implications of policy and practice for the future of HEI based ITE.

During the early1990’s Kevin was part of the North West16-19 Economics Development Group within the Economics and Business Education Association.

Prior to entering Higher Education in 1991, Kevin worked for a decade in Secondary schools in Warwickshire and Cumbria. He was an A Level Examiner in Economics and an O/GCSE Level Examiner in Business Studies.
