Keele University Logo
As we have developed our strategic map and reviewed the University's brand, it has become apparent that our visual identity needs to be updated to better, and more accurately, reflect our aspirations as well as our heritage. The aim of this re-branding is to ensure that we present the University to its best advantage with consistency, confidence and pride as we look to the future. We believe that as all universities across the whole higher education sector position themselves within a more competitive and complex market our new visual identity will help prospective students, students, staff, alumni, employers and other stakeholders to immediately identify Keele as an established University with a proud and distinctive tradition of providing education of the highest quality.
The new 'logo' draws heavily on our armorial bearings and reintroduces the rich golds and reds of the original arms and crest. The use of the colour green remains as part of a weave pattern on the shield. The use of green is chosen to reflect not only our immediate environment and campus, but also our commitment to sustainability. The weave produced by the ribbons of gold, red and green represent our distinctive interdisciplinary curriculum. The five original heraldic devices are also clearly visible on a more contemporary shield.
Guidance on using the new logo
A full usage style guide will be available shortly. Please note that the logo can not be altered in any way. This includes altering the aspect ratio, colours, alignment, background or any other edits. If you are using the transparent background of the logo, please place it over simple one tone backgrounds.
The zip file contains three folders containing three different file formats:
- .jpg - Use these on websites and printed materials where high resolution print quality is not an issue. Any scaling of these files will reduce the image quality. The files are available in RGB and CMYK (see below for explanation)
- .eps - Use these for printed materials and to scale the logo to any size without losing image quality. If you have image editing software then you can open these files at any size you like and re-save them as .jpgs or .gifs etc. to reduce the file size for web delivery. Provide this format to any company wanting to print the logo. You can render .eps files in RGB or CMYK (see below for explanation)
- .ai - These are native Adobe Illustrator files should you need them.
Inside each of these 'format' folders are a variety of logos to choose from. Pick the one that best suits your needs, e.g. portrait, landscape, or small badge with large text etc.
RGB or CMYK ?
RGB stands for Red Green Blue and CMYK stands for Cyan Magenta Yellow and Key (or Black).
RGB is best for digital based publications e.g. the web and emails.
CMYK is best for printed publications e.g. posters and letterheads.
