On-going Journals Problems
Ebsco Databases & Journals (including Cinahl & Medline) (Keele & NHS users)
We are aware that there is a problem accessing Ebsco databases and journals when users have been using both Keele and NHS Athens logins during the same computer session. The system gets confused about which type of user you are and presents an error screen refusing you access. You need to clear the Internet cache for Ebsco by clicking here and click on the option "Remove EbscoHost Authentication Cookie". If this doesn't work, the best we can suggest is to log out, restart your computer then only use one set of resources (Keele or NHS) for the computer session; log out and restart your computer to use the other set of resources. We have reported the problem to Ebsco, however any fix in the foreseeable future seems unlikely.
Royal Society of Medicine eJournals (NHS users)
The ejournal titles that we subscribe to and are published by the Royal Society of Medicine are being moved to the SAGE Journals platform. Unfortunately SAGE are having some problems providing like-for-like access and this is affecting our ability to access these titles. This involves 3 titles: Clinical Risk, Health Services Management Research and the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. At the moment many of the articles seemed to be freely available and we do have access to some holdings via other collections and in print. We have reported the problems and hope that the publishers can resolve this issue soon.
Corrected Journals Problems
Acta Cytologica (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Access to this title is via Athens. *
The publisher has updated their Athens login interface. However it is not clear how users from our organisation are supposed to use it. We have told them to fix it so that we can access our subscription.
Clinical Medicine ejournals (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Access to this title is for UHNS via Athens. *
The publisher is changing their platform provider however they are having trouble providing like-for-like access. They have set up a temporary additional username / password to allow our users access to the full-text. To access this title – go to the NHS My Journals A-Z list (link above) and login with your NHS Athens username and password. Search for the title and follow the additional instructions provided. We have reported the problem to our suppliers
Ebsco Databases - accessing ejournals and articles from HDAS or NHS My Journals (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Links should go straight thru to the full-text. *
We are aware that there is a problem accessing Ebsco provided ejournals and articles from HDAS search results or the NHS My Journals list. Users get error messages suggesting that the items in question don't exist. As far as we can tell this is only a problem with the access route, ie the web address created in HDAS / My Journals to go to the article or ejournal. If you go directly to the Ebsco databases, login and search for your article you should be able to access the full text.
NHS Users - You can go to Ebsco databases here. Enter your NHS Athens login details, select "EBSCO HOST Databases", then select the database containing your article, or click the "select all" check box if you are unsure. Click "Publications" from the top menu bar, enter your journal title into the second text box and click the "Browse" button. Click the journal title link to go to the journal page, then browse through the issues to find your article. We have reported the problem to our suppliers.
We have reported the problem to our suppliers.
Elsevier / ScienceDirect (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Links should go straight thru to the full-text. *
We are aware that there is a problem accessing articles in our ScienceDirect journal titles from links within the HDAS database search. You get an error message indicating that you do not have access to the article. This is a problem with the access route ie the web address created in HDAS. You can search for the journal / article within ScienceDirect to get to the full-text. Login to ScienceDirect here. From the "OpenAthens Federation" list select the institution "NHS England", then login with your NHS Athens username and password when prompted.
Medline with Full-text (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Access to volumes / issues via the Journal page is now working. *
We are aware that they is a problem on the journal title pages within the Medline database. When you try to click the year in order to expand the drop-down list and view the volumes and issues, the drop-down list is not being presented. It is not an access issue so you should be able to get to the full-text if it is available within Medline. To find your article: click the "New Search" option from the top toolbar, then click "Advanced Search" under the text box, enter the article title you are trying to find in the text box and select "TI Title" from the field drop-down box. You can enter other values from the reference too, for example author, journal title, volume and so on. Then click "Search". Your article should appear in the results list. An alternative is to click the "More" option on the top toolbar, then click "Citation matcher" and enter the relevant details from your reference. We have reported the problem to Ebsco.
Springer Link ejournals (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Select "Health Library for North Staffs" from the institution list. *
Springer have updated their website interface. This has unexpectedly resulted in the loss of our institution in their institution list, which you need to select in order to login via Athens. We are currently having on-going discussions with our suppliers to correct the problem as quickly as possible.
Wiley Online Library ejournals (NHS only)
* This has been corrected. Select "Health Library for North Staffordshire" from the institution list. *
Wiley have updated their Athens version. This has unexpectedly resulted in the loss of our institution in their institution list, which you need to select in order to login via Athens. We have been given a temporary username and password to allow users to access our ejournals here. Check the NHS My Journals list for details. Alternatively you can use this link to login independently via Athens ; select "City General Hospital Health Library (Athens)" from the Institution List and login when prompted. We have reported the problem to our suppliers.
