UK undergraduate entry requirements 2023
The entry requirements for each of our undergraduate courses are outlined on individual course pages.
The entry grades outlined indicate the likely offer or range of offers which would be made to candidates along with any subject specific requirements. This is for general information only. Keele University reserves the right to vary offer conditions depending upon a candidate’s application. Information about specific qualifications can be found below:
Students entering Keele are required to have GCSE English at grade C (or 4) or above or equivalent.
GCSE Mathematics or Science may also required if they are stated as part of the entry requirements on the individual course page. This will also include the specific grade required.
If you do not have the required GCSEs, please contact the Admissions team for advice.
Keele University welcomes Core Mathematics qualifications.
Skills in Mathematical and statistical problem solving, data analysis and interpretation can provide a useful preparation for applicants wishing to progress to degrees in Business, Health, Psychology, Sciences and Social Sciences.
As Core Mathematics is not a compulsory requirement at post 16 we would not normally include it in the conditions of an offer. However, we would look positively on applicants offering Core Mathematics qualifications and may take it in lieu of a GCSE Maths requirement.
Some of our degree courses require a specific A level subjects. These are stated on the individual course pages.
General studies/critical thinking
For the some of our courses, we do not accept General Studies or Critical Thinking A levels towards the entry requirements. If they are excluded, this will be stated on the individual course pages.
AS levels
We are aware of the changes within the A level framework in England and would not expect all applicants to have AS level qualifications stated on their application. If they are stated, we will take these grades into consideration but we will also consider the predicted grades supplied*, qualifications taken at other levels (GCSEs for example), the personal statement and reference. Equally, we shall not discriminate against a candidate who has performed poorly in AS-level examinations if other indicators (GCSE performance, reference, and predicted grades) are satisfactory.
*Please note that this excludes applications to Medicine
For some courses, depending on individual circumstances, there may be some flexibility for students who have studied two AS levels in place of a third A2 subject or for students who are studying 2 A levels and are predicted high grades alongside additional study.
Science practical
For applicants taking the reformed A levels in Biology, Chemistry or Physics in England and applying for our Medicine courses and some of our science based programmes, we will require a pass in the practical element. If this is required, this will be indicated on the individual course pages
We accept the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (QCF) for entry on to the majority of our degree courses as indicated on the individual course pages.
The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (QCF) and National Extended Certificate (previously known as the Subsidiary Diploma) (QCF) are also acceptable combined with additional A level or equivalent Level 3 qualification(s).
Some of our degree courses have subject-specific requirements. These are stated on the individual course pages. We may need to assess the units studied to ensure these subject specific requirements are met and therefore may request further information when assessing your application.
Applicants are expected to meet the GCSE requirements in addition to the BTEC requirements.
Our entry requirements are based on an overall Diploma points score. We will also consider Higher level components on an individual basis if combined with additional A level or equivalent Level 3 qualification(s). Please contact the Admissions team for further advice.

We accept 3 Advanced Scottish Highers or may consider Scottish Highers in combination with Advanced Highers for certain courses. Grade requirements vary across courses. In addition to this, we require English and Mathematics, or for some courses a science subject is acceptable in lieu of Maths, at National 5, grade 3 or above.
We welcome applicants that hold the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate. For the majority of our undergraduate courses we will accept the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate in lieu of one A level.
Keele welcomes applicants that offer a combination of qualifications. Applicants offering a broader range of qualifications may receive a tariff offer rather than a grade offer in these circumstances.
