Speech and Language Therapy

This 4-year integrated master's undergraduate degree programme aims to include as its principal areas of study:

• Speech and language pathologies;  
  
• Linguistics and phonetics;  
  
• Development and educational psychology;  
  
• Congenital, developmental and acquired medical conditions. 

Keele is planning to utilise existing expertise and resource from across the University in the teaching of this course and anticipates the opportunity for collaborations between Speech and Language Therapy MSci students and other Keele students, from courses such as radiography, physiotherapy, paramedicine, and pharmacy. Potential wider collaborations could involve Speech and Language Therapy MSci students working with peers from social work, psychology, and forensic science disciplines.

In terms of career prospects for potential Keele graduates of Speech and Language Therapy MSci, there is a national shortage of Speech and Language Therapists (HEE, 2022). This allied heath profession is nationally recognised as needing more graduates for reasons including ageing populations and associated increasing prevalence of neurological conditions.

What does ‘subject to validation’ mean?

This course is ‘subject to validation’ which means that it is in the last stages of the validation process, awaiting final approval. Validation is a rigorous process undertaken with academic staff, students, independent subject experts, and employers to ensure the course is of high quality, and able to prepare students well for their future employment or further study. Validation is not guaranteed.
