The Care Leavers' and Estranged Students' Bursary

This award offers a non-repayable bursary of £1000 per year to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who have left the care of their local authority or are irreconcilably estranged from their families and meet the relevant eligibility criteria. In addition to the annual bursary, recipients receive an award of £500 upon graduation.

This bursary will be awarded in addition to any other financial support or awards that students are entitled to from the University or your Local Authority.

Eligibility 2023/2024

A bursary of £1,000 a year and £500 on graduation is available for all undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who:

• Commence/commenced their undergraduate or postgraduate taught master’s degree at Keele in or after September 2018
• Are classed as a ‘home’ student for fee status purposes. 
• Are under the age of 25 at the start of their course at Keele.

AND

• Have spent at least 13 weeks in care (e.g. foster care or children’s home) since the age of 14 and were in care on their 16th birthday

OR

• Were privately fostered until the age of 16 or were 'looked after' until they were subject to a Special Guardianship Order.

OR

• Have been assessed as independent by Student Finance England or other local authority, because they are estranged from their parents or guardian. Postgraduate students must provide evidence from a professional person who can confirm their estrangement.

Exceptions

Students studying on a part time basis or a professional postgraduate course are eligible for a pro-rata award

Students will not be eligible if they are a Keele Online Student or on an apprenticeship

In order to be eligible at postgraduate level you must be studying a miniumum of a Master's qualification; modular courses and the Postgraduate Certificate/Postgraduate Diploma are not eligible.

Please note that if you are studying a Harper & Keele Veterinary School programme you will not be eligible for this award. This is due to the fact that the Veterinary School has a standalone package. Further information can be found on the Harper & Keele Veterinary School webpage.

How to apply

In order to access the bursary students will need to provide evidence that they meet the eligibility criteria.

For care leavers this may be from a key worker or social worker from the local authority or other professional person who can confirm their care leaver status.

Estranged students will need to provide evidence from a professional person that they are irreconcilably estranged from their parent or guardian and evidence that they have been assessed as independent from Student Finance.

Estranged students will need to provide evidence that they meet the eligibility criteria at the beginning of each year of study in order to receive the bursary.

Estranged students will need to meet with the dedicated contact each year they are eligible for the bursary to confirm that they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Further evidence may be requested if required.

The Keele University Bursary

The Keele University Bursary is an award of £1,000 in the first year of study for undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility criteria 

Eligibility in 2023

• You must have commenced your full-time undergraduate degree at Keele in the 2023/24 academic year. 
• You must be liable to pay the full tuition fee of £9,250.
• You must have a gross annual household income of £15,000 or below (as verified by Student Finance)
• You must be domiciled in England or Northern Ireland, or domiciled in Wales and not in receipt of any form of tuition fee funding from the Welsh Assembly.
• You must not be on a course that receives other public funding e.g. NHS Learning Support Fund, PGCE or Social Work. Please note that students who are on NHS courses that do not receive NHS funding (or other external funding) may still be eligible. 

Exceptions

Please note that if you are receiving any non-repayable, non-means-tested funding from your government towards your tuition fee payment, you will not receive the Keele University Bursary. 

Please note that if you are studying a Harper & Keele Veterinary School programme you will not be eligible for this award. This is due to the fact that the Veterinary School has a standalone package. 

How to apply

The Keele University Bursary is assessed by Student Finance on our behalf and is automatically awarded if you meet the eligibility criteria. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you should receive a confirmation letter to your 'home' address in Winter of the academic year you are due to receive the bursary. The Keele University Bursary is usually paid in late February. 

If you have chosen not to use Student Finance, you should still be able to provide your household income details to them for bursary purposes. Please call Student Finance directly to discuss this or contact our Financial Support Team.

The Access and Success Fund

The Access and Success Fund is available for current students to support them to make the most of their student experience when financial difficulties might otherwise prevent them from doing so. 

The Access and Success fund can help students in many ways; for example, if a student needs a laptop to study but can't afford one, the fund might be able to help. For students interested in joining a sports club or society but unable to afford the membership fee, the fund can help with that too. Or if a student would benefit from access to music or streaming platforms, the fund might help them to pay for it. 

There is no limit on what the Access and Success Fund can help students achieve, as long as they can demonstrate how it would help them, and they meet the eligibility criteria. 

In 2022, the Access and Success Fund providing financial assistance for: 

• 559 transport cost contributions
• 407 laptops
• 383 gym memberships
• 378 placement / course / equipment cost contributions
• 222 society memberships / activity costs
• 50 subscription services
• 27 childcare contributions
• 17 gender identity cost contributions
• A wide range of other requests that were specific to the individual 

Eligibility in 2022

To apply from the Access and Success 2022 fund, applicants must: 

• be from one of our key student groups 
• be a current UK (home) undergraduate Keele University student  
• have annual household income below £62,311 

How to apply

When applying, applicants will be asked how the Support Fund would enhance their university experience. 

Applications to the Access and Success fund will open in winter of the 2023/24 academic year.

Undergraduate Global Scholarship (UG)

The award

Awards of £5,000 in Year 1 for students who exceed published entry requirements, then further payments of £1,000 for Year 2 and 3 if a 2.1 is maintained, and further payments of £2,000 for Year 2 and Year 3 if a 1st is maintained.

Eligibility

Enrolled undergraduate international students who exceed the published entry requirements (as per the prospectus for the year of entry) will automatically be awarded the scholarship as a tuition fee discount.

Exceptions

Qualifying recipients of the scholarship will receive the award in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit.

The Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students who will be based at Keele University and start their studies in September 2023. The award cannot be used for any other year of entry.

The scholarship is not available for students on the following programmes:

• entering Foundation Year study
• Medicine programmes
• Programmes delivered through the Harper and Keele Veterinary School

Only self-funding international students are eligible and you must be confirmed as an overseas student for fee paying purposes. The scholarship is not open to students who are in receipt of funding from external bodies such as local Government, charities or private organisations.

The scholarship is not available for students studying wholly online courses delivered by Keele.

Progression from Keele University International College (KUIC)

KUIC Foundation Year

Students who successfully complete the KUIC Foundation Year will qualify for the Undergraduate Global Scholarship.

KUIC International Year 1

Students who successfully complete the KUIC International Year 1 progress to year 2 of the undergraduate degree at Keele. They will qualify at year 2 stage of the Undergraduate Global Scholarship if they meet the below percentage criteria:

• 60% - 69% - £1,000
• 70% and above - £2,000

How to apply

International applicants holding offers for selected undergraduate programmes will automatically be considered for the Keele Undergraduate Global Scholarship when we assess your application and receive official evidence of your entry qualifications. You do not need to submit a separate application for an award.

The Advanced Entry Scholarship (UG)

How to apply

Enrolled undergraduate international students who exceed published entry requirements who start their studies at Keele University part way through their undergraduate degree (after the first year).

Awards of £3,000 for students who exceed published entry requirements (as per the website for the year of entry), with subsequent awards of £1,000 or £2,000 reduction on the next year's fees based on performance. For final year entry students, £3,000 scholarship at entry.

Eligibility

Enrolled undergraduate international students who exceed the published entry requirements (as per the website for the year of entry) will automatically be awarded the scholarship as a tuition fee discount.

Enrolled undergraduate international students accepted at or below the published entry criteria will be awarded a £1,000 scholarship and then they would follow the yearly assessment as outlined above.

Exceptions

Qualifying recipients of the scholarship will receive the award in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit.

Only self-funding international students are eligible and you must be confirmed as an overseas student for fee paying purposes. The scholarship is not open to students who are in receipt of funding from external bodies such as local Government, charities or private organisations.

US Federal Student Loans

Keele University is certified to award Federal Stafford and PLUS loans.

Please note that the following information is for 2022/23 entry.

Keele participates in the US Government's William D Ford Direct Loans Scheme. For further information please look at the Department of Education's website.

Federal Direct Loans are provided by the US Government. They are available to US citizens and eligible non-citizens who have firmly accepted an unconditional offer to study at Keele University.

You must borrow a Direct Stafford Loan and the maximum amount available depends on if you are a postgraduate or an undergraduate student. You then apply for a Direct PLUS Loan if additional funds are required.

We are certified in respect of all of our undergraduate and postgraduate study courses which lead to an undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree except for undergraduate medicine and nursing courses, which are not certified to receive funding for US students.

It is important that you apply for your funding as soon as you have accepted an offer to study at Keele, at the very latest.

Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarships

Here at Keele we believe that everyone has the right to education and are working to ensure that asylum seekers and students from a forced migrant background are able to access Higher Education. Successful applicants for the 2024 Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship at Keele University will be provided with:

• A full tuition fee waiver for up to 4 years
• A cash award of £1200 each year towards living costs
• An additional award of £250 towards course costs each year of study to be loaded onto the student’s Keele card
• Personal support will also be available for each successful student to enable them to identify and overcome barriers to achievement on their degree programme.

Please be aware that the scholarship is unable to provide full maintenance support so applicants must be able to provide evidence that they will be able to cover their living costs whilst studying.

Applications are now closed: We will be in touch with all applicants by the end of July 2023 to let them know the outcome of their applications.

entry we will be offering the following Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarships:

• 2 scholarships for eligible applicants wishing to study an undergraduate degree programme.
• 1 scholarship for eligible applicants wishing to study a postgraduate taught Masters degree programme (part-time or full-time).

Successful applicants for the Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship at Keele University will be provided with:

• Full tuition fee costs for up to a maximum of four years.
• A cash award of £1200 each year towards living costs.
• £250 towards course costs loaded on the students Keele Card in each year of study.
• Personal Support: Support will also be developed for each successful student to enable them to identify and overcome barriers to achievement on their degree programme.

Applications will be considered from students applying for the following courses:

• Full time undergraduate degree and foundation programmes (up to a maximum of four years)
• Full time or part time postgraduate taught Master’s programmes (applicants must be studying a minimum of a Master’s qualifications; modular courses and the Postgraduate Certificate/Postgraduate Diploma are not eligible).

Applicants must fall into one of the following immigration status groups and be unable to access UK government funding because of their current immigration status:

• An asylum seeker – a person who has made a claim with the UK for refugee status
• A person who has been granted some form of temporary status, such as Limited Leave to remain, in the UK
• Dependents or partners of any of the above status groups, whose claim is dependent on a principal applicant.

Applicants must be able to provide evidence of their status, under one of the above categories.

Priority will be given to applicants who live within easy commuting distance of Keele University.

Applicants will need to read the guidance notes fully and complete an online application form. The Article 26 Scholarship application form will ask you questions about your individual circumstances, and you will be asked to provide a supporting statement to tell us more about your financial circumstances. You will also need to provide supporting evidence - we will contact you by email to discuss this with you.

All applicants will require a referee to provide a supporting statement for their application. This could be a school or college lecturer, support worker or community or voluntary group leader. All applicants will also need to provide supporting evidence of their circumstances by the application deadline.

Applicants are reminded that this is a competitive process and not all applications for the Scholarships will be successful. 

Stage 1  - Once the closing date for applications has passed, following an initial assessment, the University will contact applicants to let them know whether or not their application will progress to the next stage of the selection process. 

Stage 2  - Applicants who are shortlisted will be invited to an interview during Summer 2023 to verify the information they have provided on their application and to give them an opportunity to get to know the University. Applicants will be asked to sign a document providing permission for the University to share information with the UK Home Office in order to verify Eligibility for the scholarship and status in the UK. Interviews will be held as soon as possible after the closing date. 

Stage 3 - Successful applicants will be sent an offer of an Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship within two weeks of the interview. For more information about how we assess applications please see the Selecting Sanctuary Scholars document. 

We will consider applications from all students on a case-by-case basis, and your Eligibility for the scholarship will depend on a number of factors. This is a competitive scholarship with limited places, and so we understand that some applicants may be disappointed by the outcome of their application.

For the avoidance of doubt, all offers of an Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship are conditional of applicants receiving an Unconditional offer from the University and subject to satisfactorily meeting the right to study check undertaken by the University’s Immigration Compliance Team.

Successful applicants will only be entitled to the awards associated with the Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship once they have fully enrolled with the University. Scheduled payments will be made to the student, provided they remain enrolled on their chosen course.

If they have not already done so, students should apply to open a UK bank account in order to receive payments of the additional financial support. 

Payments will normally be paid monthly, unless students would benefit from a different payment schedule which can be discussed with the University.

Payments to Keele Cards will be loaded onto the students Keele Card during Semester 1. 

Students will receive a confirmation email at the beginning of Semester 1 to confirm payment dates.

Keele International Excellence Scholarship (UG)

Award

Awards of £2,500 per year of study are available to international undergraduate students across a wide range of subject areas (please see exclusions below).

This award can be combined with the Keele Developing Countries Scholarship if you are eligible.

Eligibility

Enrolled international students who exceed the published entry requirements (as per the prospectus for the year of entry) will automatically be awarded the scholarship as a tuition fee discount.

Keele Foundation Year students progressing to a UG course at Keele will also be eligible for the tuition fee discount.

Exceptions

Qualifying recipients of the scholarship will receive the award in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit.

The Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students who will be based at Keele University and start their studies in September 2022. The award cannot be used for any other year of entry.

The scholarship is not available for students on the following programmes:

The Developing Countries Scholarship (UG)

Award

Awards of £1,000 per year of study are available to international students who are nationals of the least developed, low and lower middle income countries (as defined by the World Bank as at October 2021).

This award can be combined with the Keele International Excellence Scholarship if you are eligible.

Eligibility

Enrolled international students who are accepted onto any undergraduate programme (including Foundation Year but excluding courses delivered at the Harper and Keele Veterinary School) and are a national of one of the following countries. Please note that this list is defined by the World Bank and we compile this list annually.

Exceptions

Qualifying recipients of the scholarship will receive the award in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit.

The Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students who will be based at Keele University and start their studies in January 2022 or September 2022.

Only self-funding international students are eligible and you must be confirmed as an overseas student for fee paying purposes. The scholarship is not open to students who are in receipt of funding from external bodies such as local Government, charities or private organisations.

The scholarship is not available for students studying wholly online courses delivered by Keele.

Successful applicants will only be entitled to the awards associated with the Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship once they have fully enrolled with the University. Scheduled payments will be made to the student, provided they remain enrolled on their chosen course.

If they have not already done so, students should apply to open a UK bank account in order to receive payments of the additional financial support. 

Payments will normally be paid monthly, unless students would benefit from a different payment schedule which can be discussed with the University.

Payments to Keele Cards will be loaded onto the students Keele Card during Semester 1. 

Students will receive a confirmation email at the beginning of Semester 1 to confirm payment dates.

The Keele University Bursary

The Keele University Bursary is an award of £1,000 in the first year of study for undergraduate students who meet the following eligibility criteria:

• You must have commenced your full-time undergraduate degree at Keele in the 2021/22 academic year.
• You must be liable to pay the full tuition fee of £9,250.
• You must have a gross annual household income of £15,000 or below (as verified by Student Finance). This will be reviewed by Student Finance each academic year.
• You must be domiciled in England or Northern Ireland, or domiciled in Wales and not in receipt of any form of tuition fee funding from the Welsh Assembly.
• You must not be on a course that receives other public funding e.g. NHS Learning Support Fund, PGCE or Social Work. Please note that students who are on NHS courses that do not receive NHS funding (or other external funding) will still be eligible.

Please note that if you are receiving any non-repayable, non-means-tested funding from your government towards your tuition fee payment, you will not receive the Keele University Bursary.

Please note that if you are studying a Harper & Keele Veterinary School programme you will not be eligible for this award. This is due to the fact that the Veterinary School has a standalone package.

The Keele University Bursary is assessed by Student Finance on our behalf and is automatically awarded if you meet the eligiblity criteria. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you should receive a confirmation letter to your 'home' address in Winter of the academic year you are due to receive the bursary. The Keele University Bursary is usually paid in late February.

The Care Leavers and Estranged Students Bursary

This bursary offers an award of £1000 per year to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who have left the care of their local authority or are irreconcilably estranged from their families and meet the relevant eligibility criteria. In addition to the annual bursary, recipients receive an award of £500 upon graduation.

This bursary will be awarded in addition to any other financial support or awards that students are entitled to from the University or your Local Authority.

Eligibility criteria:

• You must have commenced your undergraduate or postgraduate taught Master’s degree at Keele in September 2020 (postgraduate modular courses and the Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma are not eligible).
• You must be classed as a ‘home’ (UK) student for tuition fee status purposes.
• You must be under the age of 25 at the start of their course at Keele.
• You must also meet one of the following criteria:
  • Have spent at least 13 weeks in care (e.g. foster care or children’s home) since the age of 14 and were in care on your 16th birthday.
  • Were privately fostered until the age of 16 or were 'looked after' until you were subject to a Special Guardianship Order.
  • Have been assessed as independent by Student Finance England or other local authority, because you are estranged from your parents/guardians.Postgraduate students will need to provide separate evidence.

Students studying on a part time basis or a professional postgraduate course are eligible for a pro-rata award. Students will not be eligible if they are a Keele Online Student or completing an apprenticeship.

Please note that if you are studying a Harper & Keele Veterinary School programme you will not be eligible for this award. This is because the Veterinary School has a standalone package.

In order to access this bursary, you will need to provide evidence that you meet the eligibility criteria. For example, a care leaver could provide evidence from a social worker to confirm their care leaver status, or an estranged student could provide evidence from a professional person to confirm that they are irreconcilably estranged from their parents/guardians and evidence that they have been assessed as independent from Student Finance. Estranged students will need to provide evidence that they meet the eligibility criteria at the beginning of each year of study in order to receive the bursary.

Keele International Excellence Scholarship (UG)

Award

Awards of £2,500 per year of study are available to international undergraduate students across a wide range of subject areas (excluding Medicine programmes and programmes delivered through the Harper and Keele Veterinary School).

This award can be combined with the Keele Developing Countries Scholarship if you are eligible.

Eligibility

Enrolled international students who exceed the published entry requirements (as per the prospectus for the year of entry) will automatically be awarded the scholarship as a tuition fee discount.

Keele Foundation Year students, Keele International Degree Programme students and Keele International Study Centre Foundation Year Students progressing to a UG course at Keele will also be eligible for the tuition fee discount.

Keele International Study Centre International Year 1 (IY1) students progressing to a UG course at Keele for the reminder of their study programme will also be eligible for the tuition fee discount.

Exceptions

Qualifying recipients of the scholarship will receive the award in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit.

The Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students who will be based at Keele University and start their studies in September 2020 or September 2021. The award cannot be used for any other year of entry.

The scholarship is not available for students entering Foundation Year study or studying undergraduate Medicine programmes.

Only self-funding international students are eligible and you must be confirmed as an overseas student for fee paying purposes. The scholarship is not open to students who are in receipt of funding from external bodies such as local Government, charities or private organisations.

The scholarship is not available for students studying wholly online courses delivered by Keele.

Awards of £1,000 per year of study are available to international students who are nationals of the least developed, low and lower middle income countries (as defined by the World Bank as at December 2018).

This award can be combined with the Keele International Excellence Scholarship if you are eligible.

Eligibility

Enrolled international students who are accepted onto any undergraduate programme (including Foundation Year but excluding courses delivered at the International Study Centre and the Harper and Keele Veterinary School) and are a national of one of the following countries. Please note that this list is defined by the World Bank and we compile this list annually.

Exceptions

Qualifying recipients of the scholarship will receive the award in the form of a tuition fee discount. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit.

The Scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students who will be based at Keele University and start their studies in September 2020 or September 2021.

Only self-funding international students are eligible and you must be confirmed as an overseas student for fee paying purposes. The scholarship is not open to students who are in receipt of funding from external bodies such as local Government, charities or private organisations.

US Federal Student Loans

Keele University is certified to award Federal Stafford and PLUS loans.

Please note that the following information is for 2021 entry.

Keele University is approved to process VA benefits with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Veteran Affairs (VA) Educational Funding is a benefit paid to former US service personnel to fund their education, or the education of a close family member.

Federal Direct Loans are provided by the US Government. They are available to US citizens and eligible non-citizens who have firmly accepted an unconditional offer to study at Keele University.

You must borrow a Direct Stafford Loan and the maximum amount available depends on if you are a postgraduate or an undergraduate student. You then apply for a Direct PLUS Loan if additional funds are required.  

We are certified in respect of all of our undergraduate and postgraduate study courses which lead to an undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree except for undergraduate medicine and nursing courses, which are not certified to receive funding for US students.

It is important that you apply for your funding as soon as you have accepted an offer to study at Keele, at the very latest.

Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarships

Article 26 of the Declaration of Human Rights states that “Everyone has the right to Education”. Keele University are committed to supporting students from all backgrounds to access Higher Education and provide scholarships for asylum seekers and forced migrants who are seeking sanctuary in the UK. 

Applications for 2021 entry are now open until 31 May 2021.

Here at Keele we believe that everyone has the right to education and are working to ensure that asylum seekers and students from a forced migrant background are able to access Higher Education. Successful applicants for the Article 26 Sanctuary Scholarship at Keele University will be provided with: 

• Full tuition fee costs.
• An additional award of £1200 towards living costs in each year of study.
• An additional award of £250 towards course costs each year of study to be loaded onto the student’s Keele card.
• Personal support will also be available for each successful student to enable them to identify and overcome barriers to achievement on their degree programme.

Please be aware that the scholarship is unable to provide full maintenance support so applicants must be able to provide evidence that they will be able to cover their living costs whilst studying.

International students enrolling at Keele University in September 2020 or January 2021 will receive our new International Support Package worth over £2,000 and free accommodation for 14 days if you are required to quarantine.

We understand that moving abroad to study can be challenging, particularly in these difficult times. Keele wants to make this transition as easy as possible for you and we are therefore offering you an International Support package worth over £2,000. We hope this will help you to travel to and settle into your new home at Keele University.

The International Support Package includes:

• a contribution to your flight up to £500
• transport from a named UK airport to the campus
• a catering package for the first 2 weeks
• a 'care box' that includes bedding pack, basic kitchen equipment, plug adaptor and thermometer
• contact with other Keele students via our ‘Student Support Buddy scheme’
• an electronic device to help you keep in contact with your family and friends, as well as keeping you up to date with information about the campus, your studies and the range of social activities
• a £1000 discount towards tuition fees (this will be applied to your student record)
• international applicants are offered 14 days free accommodation on arrival to facilitate quarantine arrangements (irrespective of your date of arrival).

This International Support package is in addition to any Keele scholarships you may already have successfully gained.

The Excellence Scholarship is a cash award of £1,000 paid in your first year of study only, available to students who attain the highest grades in their pre-entry qualifications, regardless of household income levels.

Eligibility criteria:

• You must have commenced a full-time undergraduate degree course at Keele University in September 2018 or September 2019.
• You must be a UK or EU student liable to pay £9,250 tuition fees.
• You must have achieved at least AAA in your A levels (or equivalent).
• You must be studying your first degree. Students who have a degree or equivalent qualification will not be considered for this scholarship.

Students with the relevant grades in a mixture of qualifications (for example, two Distinctions in a BTEC qualification and an "A" grade in one A level) could be eligible to receive an Excellence Scholarship.

The Scholarship will not be awarded to students who receive NHS or other public funding for their course. Please note that if you do not receive the NHS bursary you may be eligible. Students taking undergraduate medicine will not receive the Keele Excellence Scholarship. Please see the Terms and Conditions for further information.

Please note that Keele University use UK NARIC information when calculating grade equivalencies.

It is possible to receive both the Keele Excellence Scholarship and the Keele University Bursary if you meet the eligibility criteria for both.

The Keele Excellence Scholarship

The Excellence Scholarship is a cash award of £1,000 paid in your first year of study only, available to students who attain the highest grades in their pre-entry qualifications, regardless of household income levels.

Eligibility criteria:

• You must have commenced a full-time undergraduate degree course at Keele University in September 2018 or September 2019.
• You must be a UK or EU student liable to pay £9,250 tuition fees.
• You must have achieved at least AAA in your A levels (or equivalent).
• You must be studying your first degree. Students who have a degree or equivalent qualification will not be considered for this scholarship.

Students with the relevant grades in a mixture of qualifications (for example, two Distinctions in a BTEC qualification and an "A" grade in one A level) could be eligible to receive an Excellence Scholarship.

The Scholarship will not be awarded to students who receive NHS or other public funding for their course. Please note that if you do not receive the NHS bursary you may be eligible. Students taking undergraduate medicine will not receive the Keele Excellence Scholarship. Please see the Terms and Conditions for further information.

• You must not be on a course that receives other public funding eg. NHS funded courses, PGCE or Social Work. Please note that students who are on NHS courses that do not receive NHS funding (or other external funding) will still be eligible.

Please note that if you are receiving any non-repayable, non-means-tested funding from your government towards your tuition fee payment, you will not receive the Keele University Bursary.

Please note that if you are studying a Harper & Keele Veterinary School programme you will not be eligible for this award. This is due to the fact that the Veterinary School has a standalone package.

The Care Leavers and Estranged Students Bursary

This bursary offers an award of £1000 per year to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who have left the care of their local authority or are irreconcilably estranged from their families and meet the relevant eligibility criteria. In addition to the annual bursary, recipients receive an award of £500 upon graduation.

This bursary will be awarded in addition to any other financial support or awards that students are entitled to from the University or your Local Authority.

Eligibility criteria:

• You must have commenced your undergraduate or postgraduate taught Master’s degree at Keele in September 2018 (postgraduate modular courses and the Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma are not eligible).
• You must be classed as a ‘home’ (UK) student for tuition fee status purposes.
• You must be under the age of 25 at the start of their course at Keele.
• You must also meet one of the following criteria:
  • Have spent at least 13 weeks in care (e.g. foster care or children’s home) since the age of 14 and were in care on your 16th birthday.
  • Were privately fostered until the age of 16 or were 'looked after' until you were subject to a Special Guardianship Order.
  • Have been assessed as independent by Student Finance England or other local authority, because you are estranged from your parents/guardians. Postgraduate students will need to provide separate evidence.

Students studying on a part time basis or a professional postgraduate course are eligible for a pro-rata award.

The KISS is an award of £2,000 towards the cost of annual tuition fees for for full-time undergraduate international students, who can demonstrate excellence in academic qualifications, English language, understanding of the course, motivation to study at Keele and extra-curricular activities.
