Games Design BA

Proposed for 2024 entry, our Games Design BA will focus on developing your technical, conceptual, and creative skills, whilst strengthening your games industry knowledge and experience. 

Our BA Games Design provides an opportunity for you to develop the creative, collaborative, and technical skills to produce exciting new computer games. The programme will  introduce you to key principles of games design, from creating characters and virtual worlds, scripting and programming to designing the sounds and graphics that make for entertaining and engaging games You will learn from academic and industry experts, and you can choose to undertake work placements, that give you the opportunity to apply the skills you’ve gained on the course to professional contexts. You will also study the games industry, learning about relevant commercial, cultural, and regulatory frameworks. 

The programme has been designed for those who are interested in exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of games design, including 3D modelling, animation, and creative storytelling. You will acquire foundational programming skills, with the option to pursue more advanced programming. Other optional modules will enable you to develop interests in Esports business management, media, film, or modern languages, plus there are also study abroad and work placement year  opportunities. 

What does ‘subject to validation’ mean? 

This course is ‘subject to validation’ which means that it is in the last stages of the validation process, awaiting final approval. Validation is a rigorous process undertaken with academic staff, students, independent subject experts and employers to ensure the course is of high quality, and able to prepare students well for their future employment or further study. Validation is not guaranteed.
