Applying to University

We offer a programme of outreach talks aimed at different year groups, parents and guardians, and access students. The talks have been designed to cover every aspect of applying to study at Keele University and focus on themes such as making the most of open days, writing personal statements, the benefits of going to University, student finance and building self-confidence.

Introduction to university - myth busting! Exploring common myths about going to university and learning the truth behind them. We will also provide a light introduction to university and the reasons that students choose to study.
Making the right choice in Year 11 Every year there are students who have not made the right subject choice for certain degrees at university, this talk is designed to help students make the right choice in their Level 3 qualifications and provide some inspiration for those who are unsure on what to do next.
Student finance and budgeting A session showing what financial support is available for students from England and how the application process works. It will explain how to apply for support and what the repayments are post university. It can also be adapted for students from Wales.

A students guide to a UCAS application A full introduction to the UCAS process and what to expect. It will cover the timeline that students should be working towards, an overview of how admissions at university works and what they will have to do at different points in the cycle.
Why Keele An introduction to Keele University. Designed to show why a student might be interested in studying with ourselves here at Keele. Highlighting our courses and campus facilities as well as how we support all our students.
Student life Typically delivered by a current student, this session will highlight what a student can get involved with at university. Will cover sports, societies, volunteering and placements.
Improve your confidence and bounce back An introduction to confidence, the importance of believing in ourselves and how we can bounce back during times of change.
Budgeting A session that talks about expected income and outgoings whilst at university. We will also provide hints and tips to help students to manage their budgets!
Employability skills A session to understand the importance of developing employability skills and how they can prepare students for the future.

Preparing for university interviews An insight into university interviews for healthcare students and our top preparation tips.
Personal statements This talk will introduce students to the UCAS personal statement and explain how it is used in the application process. It will show why the statement is important, provide some ideas on a structure to use and show some real examples of good and bad statements that have previously been submitted.
Moving on A session to help students to make final university choices after receiving their offer for their chosen course.
Personal statements checking One our team can review a student's personal statement to provide feedback and advice on any areas that may need improvement.

Access to university A dedicated session aimed at Access to Higher Education students covering personal statements, UCAS application, interview tips (if applicable) and student finance. This session can also be tweaked to include specific course information if requested.
