Dr Muriel Desbois
I study the development and maintenance of the nervous system. My research interests are on the regulation of axon morphology and on the role of E3 ubiquitin ligases during the nervous system development. Axon morphology defects have been observed in patients with neurodegenerative disease however little is known about the genetic factors important for the maintenance of axon morphology. The ubiquitin system is essential for proper formation of the nervous systems. Several E3 ubiquitin ligases have been associated with neurodevelopmental disease such as autism, schizophrenia and intellectual disabilities. Understanding their role in the nervous system development will help us understand better those disorders.
My research uses a wide range of techniques such CRISPR Cas9, genetics screen, proteomics, biochemistry, genetic analyses, microscopy and behavioural assays.
