Dr Jenny Shin
I am a stem cell neurobiologist and a lecturer in Neuroscience at the School of Life Sciences. My research interest lies in identifying fundamental principles in cortical neuron development and processes altered in neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders, leading to novel drug target identification and patient treatment response prediction. My research utilises a wide range of techniques such as human pluripotent stem cell differentiation, CRISPR interference, single cell transcriptomics, proteomics, genetic analyses and various in vitro cellular assays including neuronal activity.
Although not actively explored in my lab currently, I was trained in stereotaxic surgery including intracerebral cell transplantation and behavioural assessments in rodent models of Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease. I welcome collaborations not only in my main research theme (neurodevelopment and related disorders) but also those aiming to utilise the in vitro generated cortical neurons from human pluripotent stem cells such as cell replacement therapy in neurological disorders.
