New £10.1m facilities to meet demand for Life Sciences
An exciting new £10.1m development is underway, expanding Keele University’s Huxley Building, home to the School of Life Sciences teaching and research.
The 1500m2 development, due for completion in early 2017, will provide two state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, able to host 120 students between them. A HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council England) STEM grant of £3.75m helped to part-fund this element of the project, which will enable Keele to meet the growing demand in applications to study life sciences subjects.
Furthermore, two additional research laboratories and offices will be created to support the increased recruitment of staff and postgraduate research students, enabling students to continue their high quality research, and keeping teaching and learning at the cutting edge of life sciences' disciplines.
The internationally recognised research carried out at Keele in life sciences includes advances in cell and molecular medicine, applied entomology and parasitology, and neuroscience.
This £10.1m investment will not only allow more students to study courses in the life sciences disciplines, but will advance further research helping progress the understanding and impact of these subjects, contributing to future demands of society, develop contemporary curriculums and ensure that our graduates are at the forefront of their field.
