MA (Child Care Law and practice), PGDip SCPHN (Health Visiting) BN (Hons) Adult Nursing, RGN

Emily trained as a nurse on the first nursing degree programme offered at Keele University in 2001, before commencing her nursing career in Primary Care.

Between 2004 and 2012 Emily worked within community services both within inpatient units and patients own homes, with a special interest in palliative care. This culminated in a research project to develop a tool to improve communication at the end of life which was rolled out across local health services. Emily completed physical health assessment and prescribing qualifications during this time.

In 2013 Emily trained as a Health Visitor and worked within Shropshire, Telford, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire in various roles working with children, young people and their families. Prior to joining Keele Emily was a Specialist Nurse for Children in Care and a Safeguarding Specialist Nurse working in the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub alongside Social Care and Police colleagues.

In 2019 Emily joined the School of Nursing and Midwifery as a Lecturer in Adult Nursing and is the Safeguarding Lead for the School.

Research and scholarship

Emily's research interests include all areas of Public Health Nursing but in particular the impact of adverse childhood experiences on long-term health outcomes.
