General practice and community placements

General Practice Placements

As a new student, your initial placements in Years 1 and 2 will focus on the development of skills, integration of learning and development of teamworking and leadership skills.

Towards the end of Year 3 you will have a four-week, full-time block in general practice which provides an opportunity for you to consolidate your basic clinical skills.

In Year 4, you will have an innovative four-week block to help you to develop your clinical reasoning skills.

In Year 5, you will have a ten-week block in general practice which will focus on the consolidation of your clinical skills; integration of your learning through a focus on patient journeys, end of life care and development of your teamwork skills.

Community, 'third sector' and 'social care' placements

‘Third sector’ is a collective term for charities, voluntary organisations, non-profit and non-governmental organisations. They encompass a broad range of organisations which make an invaluable contribution to supporting patients and health care. Our Placements Manager arranges a broad range of placements in support of Clinical Skills, Individual, Community and Population and Professional Developments curriculum themes.
