Biography

I graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Forensic Biology from the University of Kent in 2012. I went on to complete my PhD in Genetics in 2015, focusing on introducing a sustainable alternative to the transportation of live piglets through the in vitro production and transportation of pig embryos. I also worked alongside the private fertility sector to characterize human embryo development in the first seven days using time-lapse incubators. In 2015, I was the named Associate on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) working within the private fertility sector to develop and implement genetic diagnosis in human embryos. In this post I became a Clinical Andrologist and worked with patients during their treatment cycles.

I joined the School of Medicine in December 2017 as an Associate Teaching Fellow in Bioscience in order to pursue a full-time teaching role. In 2019 I was promoted to Lecturer in Bioscience (Education and Scholarship).

Research and scholarship

My previous research focused on reproductive health, genetics and embryology.

At Keele, I am currently studying for an MA in Higher Education Practice. I am keen to build up an educational research strand. My interests lie in the use of student response systems to enhance student engagement and learning and as a tool for gauging student confidence with teaching material.

Teaching

In the School of Medicine I teach aspects within the first three years of the undergraduate MBChB course, as well as on the MSc Physician’s Associate (PA) studies. I lecture on the biological, physiological and reproductive health strands of the course and I am the lead for the Year 1 unit “Health and Reproduction”. I am a tutor for problem-based learning (PBL), I lead numerous laboratory practical classes and I am involved in Year 1 and 2 Experiential Learning (EL) and Year 3 SPINE sessions.
