Biography

Ezgi joined the School of Law as a post-doctoral research associate as part of the ESRC-funded project, “In Search of Legal CapacityLaw, Guardianship, and Supported Decision-Making in Intellectually Disabled People's Lives in Turkey.” Ezgi’s research interest includes cultural sociology of law and legal practice with a special focus on gender, and sexuality. Ezgi received her PhD in social and cultural thought from the Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, Cultural Thought Program (ASPECT) at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Ezgi holds two separate master’s degrees from the Conflict Analysis and Resolution Program and the Cultural Studies Program at Sabanci University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in law at Marmara University.

Research and scholarship

Ezgi’s research broadly focuses on the transformation of legal culture and legal practice with a special interest in globalization of law in Turkey. In her doctoral research, Ezgi analysed lawyers’ everyday legal practice concerning the issues of gender and sexuality in generating the possibilities of legal change in Turkey. Ezgi’s first publication discusses the historical significance and function of law in relation to the question of belonging in Turkey.
