The Keele Institute for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (KIITE) is delighted to announce that a special edition of the Journal of Academic Development and Education (JADE) has been published to celebrate academic reading.

The edition collects the abstracts and reflections from the Becoming Well Read Symposium which took place on 31 March 2021 along with accompanying papers and reflections developed since.

The symposium, coordinated by KIITE, draws together practitioners from diverse contexts and institutions to support an investigation of shared experiences and expertise, and to forge communities of practice that explore the development of academic reading.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Becoming Well Read symposium couldn't take place in its usual format. The event was held online, and we were pleased to see seventy delegates from over forty-two institutions across the UK and further afield gather to enjoy an extended discussion on this oft-neglected academic practice.

Angela Rhead, Senior Curriculum Developer in KIITE, who convenes and leads the Becoming Well Read event each year, comments:
