Biography

Dr. Xihui (Haviour) Chen, a dynamic academic, joined Keele University in March 2024 as an Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance at Keele Business School. With a wealth of experience, Dr. Chen previously held roles as an Assistant Professor in Accountancy at Heriot-Watt University from 2022 to 2024 and as a Senior Lecturer of Accounting and Finance at Teesside International Business School from 2019 to 2022. She completed a Ph.D. in corporate governance from Nottingham Trent University.

In addition to her roles at Keele, Dr. Chen extends her expertise globally as a Visiting Professor at the University of Economics in Katowice, Poland, and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A testament to her academic standing, she serves as an external examiner for esteemed institutions including the University of Northampton, Bloomsbury Institute, and University of Suffolk, specializing in Accounting and Financial Management.

Dr. Chen's impact transcends academia. Notably, she made history as the first Chinese international student president of all UK Students’ Unions, showcasing her leadership and dedication to fostering inclusivity within the student and academic communities. With a rich tapestry of experience, Dr. Xihui Chen continues to shape the landscape of Accounting and Finance education, leaving an indelible mark on both local and global academic spheres.

Research and scholarship

Dr. Xihui (Haviour) Chen is an accomplished scholar, specialising in climate governance, environmental policy, social and environmental accounting, green innovation, and sustainable finance and economics. Her impactful research has been featured in prestigious international conferences and recognised by esteemed academic journals known for their international excellence and world-leading standards, including publications in Risk Analysis, Journal of Environmental Management, Energy Economics, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and Journal of Global Information Management, and Global Finance Journal.

Beyond academia, Dr. Chen's influential work has reached wider audiences, being featured in Financial Management Magazine, Scottish Left Review, and Tunisna TV. Her leadership in the research domain is evident through her roles as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Environmental Management and a guest editor for reputable journals, such as European Financial Management and Sustainability. Notably, she was honored as one of the "Excellence in Review 2023" awardees by the Journal of Environmental Management.

Dr. Chen's research is interdisciplinary, with a current focus on exploring the implications of disruptive technologies and digital transformation for climate governance, environmental policy, and sustainable finance and economics. Her investigations extend to understanding their effects on corporate governance, sustainability, and management accounting practices.

Dr. Chen is open to considering research proposals from prospective PhD students with strong research potential aligned with her diverse and impactful research interests.

Dr. Chen's impactful teaching has left its mark in diverse institutions and countries worldwide (e.g., China, Dubai, Malaysia, Poland, Vietnam, UK), reflecting her dedication to fostering academic success on a global scale.
