Research and scholarship

My research focuses on the way that feminine gender identities are constructed and mediated through consumer culture. I am the author of the book Consumer Sexualities, which looked at women’s experiences of shopping for and using ‘sexy’ products. My recent work focuses on critiques of excessive consumption in beauty YouTube ‘anti-hauls’ and the gendered body in Covid-19, and I am developing a project researching sustainable social media influencers.

Teaching

I am currently teaching on undergraduate modules including Social Media and Society and Visual Pleasures, and the MA module Doing Media Research.
