Biography

I graduated in American Studies and Geography here at Keele in the late 60s, continuing my studies in Historical Geography at the University of Maryland in the Nixon and Carter years. After teaching in Virginia and in Maryland I returned to Keele so that I could widen my study of American culture through a growing interest in the American landscape.

Publications

My published writings include

The American Landscape (Edinburgh 1997) and Living and Working in America (Oxford 2008) with a number of chapters in various books on American heritage landscapes. I have also published articles in American Studies International, Borderlines, European Contributions to American Studies, OVERHere and in the online journal American Studies Today. I am also on the editorial board of the journal Landscapes.
