Keele academic to appear at the world’s largest philosophy and music festival
Dr Sophie Allen, a lecturer in philosophy at Keele University, will be appearing at the How the Light Gets In festival in London on Saturday 21 September.
Dr Allen is participating in the debate ‘A Crack in Everything’ alongside Slavoj Žižek, Hilary Lawson and Shahidha Bari, which will consider the nature and implications of paradoxes in science, mathematics and philosophy.
Dr Allen said: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in How the Light Gets In. The appearance of paradoxes in subject areas such as maths and science which pride themselves in rigour and accuracy raises profound questions about what our theories are telling us about the world and how good our powers of reasoning are. I’m sure the panel won’t agree about what these paradoxes signify or whether they can be solved, so it promises to be a fascinating debate. It’s a great opportunity to show the public what philosophy is about too.”
How the Light Gets In is the world’s largest philosophy and music festival which will bring together world-leading scientists, musicians, philosophers and politicians on 21-22 September.
