Equipment

Light Microscope This includes standard compound microscopes with epifluorescence attachment for fluorescent samples, normal bright field, phase contrast and Nomarski Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) imaging.

Confocal A BioRad MRC1024 system with two laser systems for confocal imaging or, if you are interested in live cell work, less damaging two-photon imaging. Ideal for immunofluorescence and work with indicator dyes.

SEM A high resolution (1.5 nm) field emission SEM, the Hitachi S4500, offers incredible high magnification, high resolution imaging as well as more standard low magnification, high depth-of-field imaging. Also has a backscattered electron detector for compositional information.

TEM Two high resolution TEMs, a JEOL100CXII and a JEOL1230 (illustrated), both equipped with Megaview III digital cameras from SIS systems offer high performance rapid throughput transmission electron microscopy.

X-ray mircoanalysis

Using the JEOL 100CXII we can also offer elemental analysis of bulk samples or thin sections using Thermo Scientific N.

BioScope Catalyst The BioScope Catalyst™ BioAFM  is designed specifically for biological application. It combines an AFM head integrated onto a light microscope stage enabling top performance. The instrument can be used in a variety of modes including contact mode, tapping mode, peak force tapping, magnetic force microscopy and many others dependant on application.

Ultracut Three ultramicrotomes for semi-thin or ultra-thin resin sectioning.

Vibratome Leica Vibrating microtome (Vibratome) for cutting thin sections of fixed or fresh tissue without embedding or freezing.

microslice Malvern microslice for cutting thin slices of hard material.
