Description for 2023/24

This course is designed for students with very advanced Spanish language skills (Spanish 9, A-level grade 7-9/A-A*, CEFR level B2) and will focus on systematically enhancing all four skills, whilst studying topics of relevance to modern-day Spanish speaking countries and societies.
The course will be mainly based on authentic Spanish texts and audio-visual materials such as films, TV recordings and online material, which will be exploited in class and self-study time.
By the end of the course you will be able to handle a variety of complex Spanish sources, including newspaper articles and fictional texts, conduct your own searches of websites in Spanish and read and discuss factual and fictional texts with some confidence.
Feedback on formative and summative assessments will be provided at regular intervals and emphasis will be placed on enabling you to become an efficient independent language learner after completion of the course.
The language level of this module corresponds to B2 work leading to Level B2+ in the European Common Framework for Languages (CEFR B2+)

The modules aims to consolidate and enhance existing Spanish language skills and knowledge of issues relevant to contemporary Spanish speaking countries and societies.
The module will also focus on students' ability to become efficient independent language learners.

School Rules

Admission to the module must be confirmed through completion of a language level self-assessment form
Students are only permitted to take one Spanish language module per semester.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Online Tasks weighted 30%
Online Tasks
Students will complete a series of online exercises to assess their reading comprehension, grammar and writing skills in the target language.

2: Class Test weighted 20%
Class Test
Students will complete an in-class test which may include writing a short text in the target language in class.

3: Oral Exam weighted 50%
Spoken interaction assessment
A 15-20 minute spoken interaction assessment to test speaking (productive), listening (receptive) and conversation (interaction) skills. Task may include presentation, role play, description or similar and question and answer. If assessments are organised in pairs or groups, individual marks will be awarded to each student.
