Prunus 'Taoyame'

Prunus Taoyame

A medium tree to 6m high and wide. Has semi-double pale pink flowers edged darker pink with a dark pink calyx. The foliage is a deep coppery-red when young turning green over summer then yellow in the autumn.

It was imported from Japan by Collingwood Ingram in 1929 and was said to be one his favourite trees. Certainly the contrast of the dark young foliage and deep coppery leaves is impressive.
