Mr Masatosi Asari selected in 1961 a cherry with deep red double flowers from seedlings of a hybrid between a double-flowered cherry and Prunus 'Matsumae-ryuun-in-beni-yae'. Introduced to the UK in 1995.
Medium-size, vase-shaped tree to 5m bearing huge clusters of highly fragrant, large, white semi-double pink flowers with a darker centre; late spring - early summer. Foliage turns orange and crimson in the autumn.
Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit 2012.
