Priorities of campus accommodation

At Keele we have a particular order that we use to prioritise the distribution of our campus accommodation. Here you can find details of the order in which we prioritise applications to see where your application will fit.

HOW IS AVAILABLE ACCOMMODATION PRIORITISED?

For students with specific needs or special circumstances, a priority list is kept in conjunction with Residence Life and Disability Support. The Student Accommodation team liaise with these teams (whichever is relevant) regarding the type of room that has become available and take guidance from them on the most suitable candidate. This would depend on the type of room, needs of the student, mental wellbeing and any risks to them.

Students will not be prioritised for rooms because of their preference for a specific room type – only for a specific supported need.

PRIORITIES/ELIGIBILITY FOR OFFERING ACCOMMODATION

We offer guaranteed accommodation on campus for new undergraduate applicants who make Keele their firm choice, and who apply for accommodation by 30 June. Terms apply.

At all stages students who have registered with the Disability Support Team or as a Care Leaver/estranged will be allocated before others.

1. Firm choice applicants that have applied before the deadline
2. Firm choice applicants that have applied after the deadline
3. Insurance choice applicants that have applied before the deadline
4. Insurance choice applicants that have applied after the deadline
5. Applicants that come through Clearing

The following students will be invited to apply for accommodation and must apply by the given deadline.

• who require campus accommodation for supported medical / disability reasons and are supported by the Disability Support Team
• are a care leaver or estranged student
• are a student whose family home is outside the UK (excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)

• are a part year visiting exchange and Erasmus student who will be studying abroad in the second semester
• are entering their final year of study at Keele

If rooms are still available for continuing students after these applications have been processed, we hold a second round of applications for continuing students that do not fall into the categories above.

Late applications may not be allocated accommodation.

We offer guaranteed accommodation on campus for new postgraduate applicants who apply for accommodation by 30 June. Terms apply.

At all stages students who have registered with the Disability Support Team or as a Care Leaver/estranged will be allocated before others.

Students are offered accommodation in the following order.

  1. New and Continuing Postgraduate students that request a full 51 week occupancy period and apply before the 30 June deadline
  2. New and Continuing Postgraduate students that request a full 51 week occupancy period and apply after the 30 June deadline
  3. New and Continuing Postgraduate students that request a shorter occupancy period

PRIORITY FOR CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION/MOVING ROOMS IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Students should be aware that the allocation of accommodation is subject to a number of different factors which need to be considered before a room can be offered and these include:

• Whether or not a room is actually available – particularly at the start of the academic year there is very little scope for offering rooms or room moves.
• The time that the application is made - i.e. outside of normal application times.
• The type of accommodation required, especially for students with specific needs/requirements.
• Whether or not support is being given by the Residence Life Team or Disability Support Team.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Please note that we are unable to discuss or disclose information about other students and their accommodation requirements or allocations.
