Former City Archaeologist and Keeper of Archaeology for Stoke on Trent Museums, David Barker is a well-known researcher and author on the history of the ceramics industry. This presentation builds upon his work on wartime pottery production and the nature of the British ceramics industry and trade in a time of change. Economic factors and technologies are considered, alongside issues of 'taste' and market forces.

Neil Ewins, Senior Lecturer in Design History, University of Sunderland is a renowned authority on the history of the British ceramics export trade, particularly focusing on the US. He has published articles on the subject and in this presentation he gives an insight into aspects of the export business that have been largely un-researched in the past, along with a discussion of the vast and important American market for Staffordshire manufacturers.

Attendance free of charge, but please book a ticket.
