Workshop: Cyanotype Printing

Three Counties Open Art Exhibition 2023

Wednesday 23rd August 12pm-2pm, Burslem School of Art

The magic of cyanotype. A unique blend of history, art and science.

Join Catherine Dineley in making vibrant cyanotype prints. Cyanotype, meaning ‘dark blue impression’, is a wonderful, fun photographic printing process, a precursor to photography that dates back to its invention in 1842 as a means to easily replicate written notes. Using sunlight and light sensitive chemicals, images can be made from a wide range of medium from drawings and photographic negatives to pressed flowers, feathers, fabric and much more.

In this hands on workshop, you will experience this simple but rewarding, magical process. You will learn how the cyanotype solution is prepared, the variety of materials it can be applied to and how to apply it. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the various techniques and create and keep beautiful vivid blue prints of your own.

No experience necessary. All material will be provided

Workshops are free, and and open to all - both young people and adults. Young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
