CANCELLED: Meet the artists - Circling

IN LIGHT OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS WE FIND THE NEED TO CANCEL THIS EVENT. WE HOPE TO SHARE NEWS OF A NEW OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE EXHIBITION IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

An opportunity for visitors to connect with visiting ILAS fellow Dr Anna Macdonald, from the Manchester School of Art, MMU, and hear about her current exhibition, which explores the physical and emotional journeys attached to the experience of living with persistent pain. The artworks emerged from workshops with participants, run with Senior Lecturer in English Literature and Creative Writing Dr Ceri Morgan, School of Humanities, Keele University, that focused on the act of walking. Collectively they respond to themes such as: the changing sense of scale pain can bring, the nature of chronicity and the complexity of walking with others.

Macdonald’s and Morgan’s ILAS fellowship explored new participatory arts methods, which brought together geopoetics, somatics and moving image practice. In 2019-20, the Keele Institute for Social Inclusion awarded funding to develop the work to focus on the relationship between chronicity, pain and hope in collaboration with bioethicist, Anthony Wrigley.

Dr Anna Macdonald is a dance artist and scholar who specialises in developing innovative models for participatory arts practice. She is regularly exhibited and published world-wide in both festival and gallery settings. Macdonald’s latest research, funded by Arts Council England, explores the relationship between movement, time and affect and she is currently programme leader for MA/MFA Contemporary Performance at the Manchester School of Art, MMU.
