Professor Alison Hodge, Aston University

IoP Public Lecture: Mind the Gap

Speaker: Prof. Alison Hodge, Aston University

Abstract: Universities, industries, businesses and other organisations, are strongly encouraged to work together, and the requirements to do so have increased significantly since the introduction of "Impact" as a specific section in the Research Excellence Framework, that has to be completed by all universities periodically. In the talk, Alison will summarise the advantages of such collaborations and some mechanisms for doing so. She will also suggest reasons why the interactions are not as easy to forge as may be expected and hoped, and speculate about how the "gaps" could be closed.

Additional Note: Alison was a member of REF Panel B13 and led Aston University's submissions to REF B11, B13 & B15!

Notes: Tea and coffee will be available in the Lennard Jones Foyer from 6.30p.m. Talks start at 7.30pm and are followed by Q&A. These talks, which are FREE to attend and open to the public, are sponsored by the West Midlands Branch of the IoP. There is ample car parking space on campus, which is free during the evening.
