Hannah Bailey, English and American Literature graduate

Before I came to Keele I had all the usual questions buzzing round my head – Have I chosen the right course? What is the difference between English and American Literatures? Are the lecturers going to be helpful? But as soon as I had been to the introductory lecture for the course I knew I had made the right decision. The tutors are so friendly and welcoming, right from the word go I felt comfortable to ask any questions I may still have buzzing around my – now not quite so busy – mind.

If you love reading, interpreting and discussing texts then you will love this course. The small seminar groups allow for such interesting conversation which really helps you get a good understanding of the texts and their contexts. Don’t worry if you know nothing about the ‘American’ side of it either – I didn’t, but as long as you are willing to do some extra reading you will be fine, you will probably even begin to enjoy doing some work off your own back. The modules are so varied in this course, I particularly enjoyed studying the Gothic which seemed to be popular amongst most of us!
