The Keele University Hardship Fund

The Keele University Hardship Fund (KUHF) is a discretionary fund which is available to students experiencing severe financial hardship.

In addition to our mainstream Hardship Fund we currently have a seperate Covid-19 fund. If you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student suffering from financial hardship as a direct result of Covid-19 please email the money specialists in Student Support: student.services@keele.ac.uk  

APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN ON THE 5th OCTOBER 2020

Students can apply to the Hardship Fund within our partner platform Blackbullion. You can register with them using your Keele email address. Once you are registered, you will also have access to all of Blackbullions money and financial capability resources.

If you make an application to the Hardship Fund we will require you to complete the short module on Budgeting 

Any Keele student (Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Home, International, Full Time or Part Time), and who has sought all available financial assistance. For instance, Undergraduate Students must have applied for your full student loan entitlement and have received the first instalment before applying for help from the Keele University Hardship Fund.

You will need to complete the Keele University Hardship Fund application form in the Blackbullion platform and upload all of the  supporting documentation requested.

In addition to completing the application form, we also require all students who apply to the Hardship Fund to complete the budgeting module in Blackbullion.

Whether you receive funding depends on a number of factors. We will consider applications from all eligible students and consider them on a case by case basis.

Applications are processed and assessed on the basis of your full year’s funding and expenditure. For this reason, we are unable to accept subsequent applications for funding in one academic year unless there has been a significant change in your financial circumstances since your first application.

It normally takes around four weeks to process an application with the correct required documentation. If we need additional information to complete processing your application, you will receive a notification to your Keele email address; a delay in returning the documentation to us will result in a delay in our processing your application. If you do not provide the requested evidence within two weeks (unless you have made arrangements with us) then we will close your application.

When we  have processed your application, you will receive an outcome notification to your Keele Student email address.

We work in a methodical and systematic way to ensure that we allocate money to those who need it most.  If you would like an explanation about how we assessed your application, please come into the office and we will be happy to go through it with you.

What if I'm still not happy?

You can make a formal complaint and your application will be reviewed and it may be reassessed. You should write to us via email within four weeks from the date of the original decision stating the exact reason for your complaint: -
