Year studied MSc Environmental Sustainability & Green Technology

2014/15

Undergraduate degree

Landscape Design & Architecture from University of Suzhou Science & Technology

Current employment

Assistant Engineer, Suzhou Spring Environmental Technology Co, Jiangsu Province, China

What did you do after graduation and how did you get this job?

Before I came to the UK to start my studies, I had an internship in a big urban and regional planning company. So after I graduated from Keele, I hoped I could have a job in that company, but at the time they didn't have any recruitment plans. However, they recommended me to another environmental enterprise and luckily, I passed the final interview and I'm now an assistant engineer.

What does your job involve?

The two main parts of my role are:

  1. Making environmental impact assessment reports.

    2. Communication and translation when we have projects with foreign companies.

What did you learn on the MSc Environmental Sustainability & Green Technology which helped you get the job, or helps with your role now?

Since I started the course in January, I had to integrate into the group of students who had started in September. The most valuable things I’ve learned in Keele are independence and how to cooperate positively with others. These skills also help me a lot now when I am doing my job.

Do you have any advice for current/prospective MSc Environmental Sustainability & Green Technology students interested in a similar career?

If you are interested in this field, you will find that every challenge is really something that will help you have a sense of achievement.
