Hobart O'Rourke, Biomedical Science (Graduate Diploma)

With an undergraduate degree in Accounting and years of experience in business and teaching, I thought it was too late to pursue my long-standing interest in biomedical research. However, returning to Keele as a mature student to study a Pre-Master’s course in Biomedical Science has given me the chance to change my career without undergoing a second undergraduate degree, and furthermore, has allowed me the opportunity to apply for a Master’s degree in a subject I, otherwise, would not have been admissible to study.

The Pre-Master’s course covered a range of relevant topics and I found that I was able to tailor my assignments to my specific areas of interest. My personal tutor was extremely helpful and supportive throughout the semester and, when the time came to apply, helped talk me through my options for Master's study, which included both MSc and MPhil courses. Eventually, I was accepted onto a MSc Bioinformatics course at one of Keele’s many partner universities in Japan, for which I am very grateful to the Keele Life Sciences and Global Opportunities departments for their support with regards to my application.
