JADE Student Learning Undergraduate Conference 2018
On 7th June, the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Student Learning and Keele’s JADE journal hosted the 3rd JADE Student Learning Undergraduate Conference. In an event covering a whole day in the prestigious home of ILAS, Keele Hall, the conference saw 40 student papers from Keele’s undergraduate community and was open to all students and staff of Keele.
Poster presentations, 5-minute lightning talks and 15-minute verbal presentations covered a range of topics across all three of Keele’s faculties. Delegates got to enjoy talks exploring the impact of primary care in primary schools, transuranium elements, the legality of lesbianism, transmedia storytelling, Greendlandic Vikings, and many many more. We saw discussions of politics, literature, healthcare, law biology, neuroscience and many other disciplinary areas.
Delegates also voted on the day for the awarding of three prizes for their favourite papers, which were awarded to the following speakers:
Best Poster Presentation (above) - Christos Evangelides (below, left), ‘Post-fire regeneration assessment in Cyprus: A case study in Evrychou’
Best Lightning Talk - Ed Everett (above, right), ‘The Impact of Encryption on Today’s Society’
Best Verbal Presentation - Ryan Stanyard (above), ‘Emotional intelligence: Relationships with resilience, self-esteem, risk-taking and self-efficacy’
You can have a look at how social media reacted by searching for #JSLUG18 on Twitter. And you can view all the posters and some photos from the day on the ILAS Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ILASatKeele. The event truly showcased the quality of our undergraduates and will return in June 2019.
A special student edition of the JADE journal will be released in October 2018 containing abstracts, posters and selected papers from this conference and the postgraduate conference held in April.
