Jody has worked within education for over 30 years as a teacher, teacher-trainer, examiner and programme director in the UK, the US, Mexico, Greece, Spain and Poland.  

While in the US she worked for several years for a government-sponsored programme teaching refugees from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Guatemala and Nicaragua and then worked for the Los Angeles School District developing a city-wide placement test for non-native English speakers. 

She joined Keele in 1990 and served as head for the Academic English programme for many years and in that capacity she was instrumental in pressing for a number of initiatives including compulsory English language  testing for all incoming undergraduate students, implementation of credit-bearing English language modules, developing pre-sessional and foundation English courses, establishing the first Kyoto University English language study programme (now in its 25th year) and co-designing a TESOL ‘taster’ course. In 2012 she took on the role of Pre-sessional Academic English Course Director in order to oversee the re-launch of the English language summer schools.

Jody has served as an External Examiner for Foundation programmes for University of Wales, Bangor and Liverpool John Moores .

Jody studied Anthropology as an undergraduate at SUNY New Paltz, NY, USA and then went on to do TESOL postgraduate study at UCLA, California, USA.

Jody teaches on the following modules and programmes:  Pre-sessional English, ABEC, AEB 2, Trinity TESOL, Inter-cultural Communication, English Communication for Health Professionals, Foundation Year, and PG Pronunciation.
