Communicating across cultures
Semester 1 only
This module is for Year 2 students who are planning to spend the second semester of the academic year at a partner university.
On successful completion of the module students will have
- learned basic skills for developing competence in intercultural communication.
- developed the ability to discuss key concepts, including cultural stereotypes, cultural generalisations, high- and low-context communication styles, culture shock and re-entry.
- learned to evaluate their own cultural opinions, attitudes and biases, and will gain an understanding of how the UK is perceived abroad, as well as the ways in which they will be perceived as national representatives.
- gained skills in independent research, performing academic tasks and constructive group work as they develop culture-specific knowledge and expertise.
