Key Stage 5 activities
Our Key Stage 5 sessions are designed to offer young people the chance to gain a better understanding of Higher Education and the UCAS application process. Sessions may cover the benefits of Higher Education, how to choose a course and university, guidance and advice for the UCAS application process and writing the personal statement, the transition to university, an overview of student life, and student finance and budgeting.
We offer a range of sessions and presentations aimed at students in Key Stage 5. These sessions can be adapted to suit specific groups and time limits as required. Our interactive sessions are aimed at a maximum capacity of 30 students per session. Presentations can be delivered to wider audiences, and have previously been incorporated into assemblies.
Our school-based sessions can cover the following topics:
- Benefits of Higher Education
- Choosing a Course and University
- Personal Statements
- Student Finance and Budgeting
- Student Life
- The UCAS Application Process
- Transition Skills
If you are hosting an event such as Higher Education Fairs, Careers events or Parents' Evenings and would like a representative from the University to attend, please let us know. We have a team of Keele representatives who are keen to give talks or simply answer any queries that learners and parents may have about Higher Education.
Will parents be attending your event?
We also have a team of specially trained Parent Ambassadors who are local parents that have not personally experienced Higher Education, but have recently supported (or are currently supporting) children in HE. Parent Ambassadors attend events alongside a Keele staff member.
Keele University hosts a number of opportunities to visit the campus throughout the year, from Open Days and Offer Holder Days to Campus Tour Afternoons and Independent Visits.
UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) co-ordinate the delivery of around 50 Higher Education Exhibitions each year. The events provide learners with the opportunity to explore their future choices, and talk to representatives from Higher and Further Education institutions, charities, graduate recruiters, gap year companies and commercial organisations. Many of the Exhibitions also have seminars to help the learners with making an application, finances or course choices.
Locally, the Staffordshire UCAS Exhibition is hosted at the Stoke-on-Trent Campus of Staffordshire University. All schools and colleges within Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire are invited to bring Year 12 students to the one day event, which includes an extensive seminar programme.
In 2017, Keele University will be attending all UCAS Exhibitions in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Keele University's annual Teachers' and Advisers' Conference is an opportunity to receive up to date information about Higher Education and to network and share best practice with colleagues from across the sector.
