Overview
Keele University is consistently ranked among the top universities for student satisfaction, and we have over 70 years’ experience of teaching a foundation year to students. On the Keele Foundation Year, you’ll study on campus, joining our community from the outset, and you will have access to a range of support.
The information below is relevant to the January intake only. If you would like to start this course in September, please visit our September pages for further details.
The January start point is open to all students and will particularly suit those who are not ready to start in autumn or who would like longer to plan for their studies. It is also appealing to students who wish to complete their Foundation Year in a compressed time frame (January to September) but without loss of teaching weeks or acceleration of teaching and content delivery. The number of weeks of teaching and the number of credits taught is equivalent to the September start.
COURSE CONTENT
Our Foundation Year allows you to develop your critical thinking, academic reading, writing, and communication study skills along with subject-specific knowledge and skills which will be invaluable in your academic studies and beyond.
This Foundation Year is a two-semester programme that provides a tailored pre-degree programme of study to better prepare you for year one of your course. You will study a mixture of subject-specific modules and study-skills modules which will help you develop the subject skills and knowledge required to succeed at degree level. The course content has been developed in collaboration with degree teaching teams so that by the time you begin Year 1, you will be ready to excel at your studies, as the majority of our Foundation Year students do.
Progression
Upon meeting the progression criteria and successfully completing our Foundation Year, you will automatically progress into your Keele undergraduate degree with the confidence that you have the skills, and knowledge needed to successfully complete your course.
