Skills Bootcamp: Wellbeing Enabler

Make every contact with patient and service users count. With the increase in mental health conditions in the population this Skills Bootcamp: Wellbeing Enabler offers healthcare professionals the opportunity to upskill their understanding of mental and physical red flags and referral pathways.

Duration: 10 sessions/days over 6 weeks

Keele University, in partnership with North Staffordshire Combined Health Care NHS Trust will jointly deliver this Skills Bootcamp: Wellbeing Enabler. 

This Skills Bootcamp is suitable for those working in a health care role, or those aspiring to, which involves regular contact with service users and/or the general public. It has been designed to provide you with an enhanced understanding of common mental health issues and training so you can provide individuals with mental health first aid, advice about physical health, social prescribing, and the promotion of mindfulness and self-help. You will develop essential knowledge of the services and resources available to patients and service users.

Completing the Skills Bootcamp will enable you to feel equipped to handle sub-acute issues such as managing suicidal ideation, advising service users about managing depression and signposting to established services. On completion, you will have the appropriate level of skills to provide basic health counselling, motivational support, listening skills, and be able to deliver advice to patients and service users during your contact.

Delivered by Keele University academics and clinical partners from North Staffordshire Combined Health Care NHS Trust, the course will be delivered online, 10 sessions/days over 6 weeks.

Post course support will be provided quarterly during the 12 months following your completion of the Skills Bootcamp.

Mental Health specific content will be supported by specialists from the Keele team and colleagues from North Staffordshire Combined Health Care NHS Trust. The Skills Bootcamp will be taught by a range of mental and physical health specialists.

You will have access to a wide range of student support such as academic skills support, Keele University’s Careers and Employability Service, including 24/7 digital resources and Student Services. You will continue to have support from our careers and employability service for three years after completing the Skills Bootcamp.

There is additional support from our dedicated School and Faculty Student Experience Support Officers (SESOs) with the designated mature students SESO holding a specific remit for supporting our work-based learning community and, providing a direct contact link to support.

Skills Bootcamps are fully funded for learners by the Department for Education.
