Aimed at healthcare professionals working in advanced level practice roles, this module will challenge you to critically reflect on your current practice.
Overview
The opportunity to explore the associated theoretical models will develop your expertise in consultation, clinical reasoning and clinical decision making within your field of practice.
Module aims
This module will enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in advanced decision making, increase your ability to formulate and justify clinical decisions, apply appropriate interventions and plans within complex clinical environments, and to work effectively in an advanced role within a dynamic healthcare environment.
Entry requirements
Applicants must hold current professional registration with a relevant regulatory body and a relevant clinical role.
Module content
Topics will include: Theoretical approaches to decision making, decision analysis and clinical reasoning Personal and social influences on judgments and decision making Cognitive biases and heuristics Applying knowledge, reasoning and evidence in decision making Collaborative and shared decision making The role of communication including culture sensitive communication Ethical perspectives Informatics and decision making Influence of policy, guidelines, professional codes and employer requirements Identifying tension and conflict National and political drivers (including knowledge generation).
Teaching and assessment
A blended learning strategy has been devised including asynchronous learning, lead lectures, case discussions, workshops, seminars and personal tutorials.
