Checkpoints

Checkpoint events allow the University to confirm and monitor the immigration status of all international students. Checkpoints are run by the University’s central services with staff qualified in immigration matters. Checkpoints are designed to run in parallel with the University’s attendance monitoring systems providing a separate independent check.

Keele University requires all international students to attend at least 2 mandatory checkpoint events each academic year for which you will be given notice (usually under 1 working week) by email to your University email account.

Checkpoints are run centrally for international students and are separate to your attendance on your course of study. At a checkpoint you will be required to present an original copy of your Visa and Passport for inspection, you may also be required to present copies of your Academic and English language qualifications.

Failure to attend a checkpoint will be deemed as failure to comply with Regulation A1 of the University's Act, Charter, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations as well as the University’s responsibilities with UK Immigration policy. Students who do not attend, or fail to present the required information (as required) will be terminated from the University which will result in cancellation of a student's Visa.

During the checkpoint process you will be required to present your current passport, and visa to be in the United Kingdom. In addition, you will be required to confirm / update any personal information the University holds including; address, telephone and email address. A number of students will be selected to have their academic and English language qualifications validated.

If your visa or passport will expire before the expected end date of your course you will be required to talk to a member of staff. If you have a Tier 4 Visa you are expected to have a valid visa until the end date of your course, unless you have completed the taught element of your course and will only be writing up either away from Keele (in your home country) or on a student visitor Visa.
