Other Funding Sources

There are a number of other funding opportunities available to Keele students to help with the day to day costs of being at university, some of which are listed below.

The Denise Coates Scholarship

What is this Scholarship?

The Denise Coates Scholarship issues 100x £1,500 awards to eligible undergraduate students.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible students need to:

  • Be in the first year of their course in 17/18
  • Be an undergraduate student 
  • Have an ST postcode (home address not term-time address)
  • Have a household income of below £25,000

How do I apply?

The online application form will be live from the 22nd January 2018 and the closing date is Friday 9th February. You can access the application form by clicking here.

A panel will then decide the successful 100 applications and students will be notified of the outcome by the end of February along with payment details. 

I am a foundation year student-can I apply?

Yes, the foundation year is classed as the first year of your course

Can I receive this Scholarship if I receive Keele Bursary and/or Keele Excellence Scholarship?

Yes 

Will I receive this award in subsequent academic years?

No, the Denise Coates Scholarship will be awarded in the current academic year only

 

The Woods Family Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of Dr Matt Woods who graduated from Keele in 1996 with a BSc in Economics and Physics and was awarded a PhD in 2000. He was chair of the KPA from 1998-2000, has served on the University Council and currently resides in New York. Read more about Matt Woods here.

What is this scholarship?

This scholarship will award 3 first year undergraduate students £1,000 each. 

What are the criteria?

To be eligible for this award students should:

  • be a full time undergraduate 
  • be in the first year of their course in 17/18
  • have a home address (not term-time) with a postcode from a low participation area (quintile 1-3)- check your postcode here

The panel will select 1 successful student from each faculty.

How can I apply for the Scholarship?

The Woods Family Scholarship application form will be live from Monday 22nd January 2018. You can access the form here

What is the closing date?

Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 9th February 2018.

Can I receive this Scholarship if I receive Keele Bursary and/or Keele Excellence Scholarship?

Yes

Can I receive this Scholarship if I receive Denise Coates Scholarship?

No, you can only receive one of these awards although, if eligible you can apply to both

Will I receive this award in subsequent academic years?

No, the  Scholarship will be awarded in the current academic year only

 

 

The Realise Foundation

If you are a student who has been a resident in North Staffordshire or Stafford town for at least 5 years, you could be awarded with goods/services up to the value of £500. Although this is not a cash bursary, you can use the Realise Foundation to ask for a number of goods including text books, learning materials, i.t software, travel costs, childcare etc. To apply or find out more, follow the link.

The Leverhulme Trust

If you’re studying an undergraduate degree, you could get up to £3000 a year for the duration of your course, with postgraduate students offered up to £5000 a year. To be eligible for a grant, you need to have a parent or spouse who works for one of the Trust’s 3 eligible occupations. To apply or find out more, follow the link.

RCN Foundation- Margaret Parkinson Scholarship

If you are a UK graduate with a non-nursing degree or diploma who wishes to commence nursing training, you could get up to £1,000 per year. Apply by emailing:  scholarships@rcn.org.uk
